Build the smallest useful catalog first

Do not wait to enter every product in the shop. Begin with fast-moving items and the categories staff use most. Keep names short enough to search quickly and distinguish similar pack sizes in the item name.

Decide the billing rules

Set tax details, receipt header, payment methods and discount permissions before the first busy period. Print a sample receipt and check the store name, address, GST details, item totals and final amount.

Prepare the counter

A reliable setup is deliberately boring.

  • A charged phone or fixed tablet with the billing app installed
  • A paired and tested 58 mm or 80 mm printer
  • Spare paper rolls within reach
  • Individual staff access with the correct role
  • A documented backup and reconnect procedure

Review after the first week

Remove duplicate items, rename products staff struggled to find and check whether stock counts match the way goods are actually sold. A catalog should become simpler with use, not accumulate confusing entries.
