What offline-first actually means
Offline-first billing keeps the essential sale workflow available on the device even when connectivity is unreliable. It is useful for counters where waiting for a network request would slow down a queue. It does not mean that local data is automatically protected from a lost phone, browser reset or damaged device.
Local use and cloud sync solve different problems
Local mode is fast to start and can work without an account. Cloud sync is for recovery, multiple devices and team access. A sensible system explains the boundary clearly so an owner knows when data exists only on one device.
A safer routine
Treat billing records like any other important business file.
- Create an account when you need ongoing cloud sync
- Export a backup before clearing browser data or changing devices
- Test a restore before relying on a backup process
- Give staff individual access instead of sharing the owner password
- Review access when an employee leaves
Before replacing a device
Confirm that the latest products and sales are available in the signed-in workspace or export the local data. Do this before uninstalling the app, clearing site storage, resetting the browser or handing the device to someone else.
